that, unlike the DS9/NEM "captain jacket," the VOY jacket was, basically, the upper portion of the jumpsuit?
(Plus facings, lining, etc., of course.)
On the one hand, this provided some nice design consistency in the uniforms.
However, on the other hand, that same consistency seemed to create the illusion of "magic jumpsuits" that inexplicably transformed into 2-piece uniforms (jacket + pants) and back again, in a similar manner to the DS9/NEM "magic jumpsuits," but that may have been the intent, especially considering how infrequently the VOY jackets were seen.
In other words, the VOY jackets were rarely seen, and when they were, the visual implication was that they were the same uniforms the crew always wore, but simply with the upper half (i.e. the jacket) "unzipped" or removed.
Or, in a nutshell, we may have been supposed to believe that future space uniforms somehow closed and opened, joined and separated, etc. by some method and/or technology currently unknown to us. (This would be in keeping with Gene Roddenberry's vision of future zipper-less clothing.)
This being the case (for whatever reason), we'll briefly summarize the relevant points of our VOY duty jumpsuit analysis as they apply to the corresponding VOY jacket.
